You guys have heard of Pledge Music, right?

PledgeMusic is a direct-to-fan music platform, which brings artists and fans together to share in the experience of music as it happens. (You can learn more about them here.)

It’s kind of like Kickstarter for music, but with more of a fan forum feel.

And you guys, I LOVE it.

I first stumbled upon the site when my all-time favorite band, BUSH, sent out a mass email that their newest album, MAN ON THE RUN, would be available for preorder through the Pledge Music forum. Of course I had to check it out. (And by check it out, I mean click the order button as fast as possible, because HELLO. Favorite band! Preorder! Goodies!)

So far, it’s been a really great, interesting experience. The album releases October 21st, but by preordering from the site, I receive emails when new singles or videos or messages are available from the band, and all I have to do is sign in to download the content. Pledge Music has a free app you can download for your phone, which makes getting your content that much easier.

And it doesn’t stop there. There are tons of extra items for sale. If you’re a huge fan of the artist, it’s a great way to have direct access to the band and show them support beyond buying the album. (Yours truly *may have ordered a set of autographed drumsticks and a guitar pick.)

All in all, Pledge Music seems like a great way for the band/artist to keep the excitement and interest going on new projects, and a great way for fans to experience the album a piece at a time. The site is well organized and it’s easy (and super fun) to check out other artists/bands.

Here are a few other projects to check out:

Emily West

Cold War Kids

Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox

Andy Allo

Taylor Davis

What do YOU think? Is this the way the music industry is headed? Do you like the direct fan to artist feel?
